Eastern International University (EIU) recently welcomed a group of students from Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP), Singapore for a collaborative learning session themed “6 Thinking Hats.” The workshop was facilitated by Mr. Barnabas Chiang, Corporate Engagement Executive at EIU’s Office Of Community Engagement.
Mr. Barnabas Chiang introduced NYP students to Edward de Bono’s renowned “6 Thinking Hats” framework—an effective tool to foster multi-dimensional thinking and enhance decision-making skills.
During the session, students explored how to analyze challenges from diverse perspectives, develop creative problem-solving techniques, and strengthen team collaboration. More than just theory, participants engaged in hands-on activities using each “hat”—symbolizing different modes of thinking such as logic, emotions, caution, optimism, creativity, and control—within real-world scenarios.
Students from NYP applied the methodology in practice, gaining deeper insight into structured thinking and critical evaluation.
This enriching exchange not only provided valuable intercultural and academic experiences but also reaffirmed the growing partnership between EIU and Nanyang Polytechnic. Over the past years, both institutions have collaborated on a range of initiatives—from engineering internships to healthcare training workshops for faculty members. Looking ahead, EIU will once again host NYP students for another “6 Thinking Hats” workshop on March 20, with nearly 30 students expected to join.
